“In the Sun” leans hard into a muscular hard rock aesthetic, anchored by a central riff that is both taut and propulsive. The groove is deliberate and unrelenting, blending grit with a rhythmic confidence that propels the song forward. Beneath the surface, there’s a sense of kinetic energy — a low-slung intensity that evokes the image of a vehicle barreling through the shimmer of heatwaves on open pavement. It’s a song designed to hit on every level, from the visceral punch of its low-end to the head-nodding cadence that demands repeat listens.
Some listeners may be reminded of the raw, hypnotic swing of Queens of the Stone Age in its sonic texture and tonal layering, but Rice never leans on imitation. As Rice notes, “‘In The Sun’ was the first rock song I’d written in years — I’d actually started to think I was done with that part of my sound. But this one just kept creeping back into my mind. I couldn’t stop humming it. I played it for a couple close friends, and they both said the same thing: ‘you need to finish this.’ I’m glad I listened.”
The track follows a series of compelling singles from Equinox, each revealing a different emotional and musical layer of the project. Where “My Sons” deals with profound personal reflection, “Property” examines the power structures of myth through a dynamic narrative lens. “Eden,” with its atmospheric textures and gospel undertones, explores transcendence through sonic space. Recorded throughout 2024 in a variety of studios across Ireland and the UK, Equinox spans 18 tracks, carefully chosen from an initial pool of more than 30 demos. This marks Rice’s first full-length release under his own name, following 2023’s Reflections Part II, the very best of……, which he released under the alias (i) CONSULT. With Equinox, Rice emerges not only with a sharpened artistic voice but with a clarity of intent that has already begun earning quiet accolades from within the industry for its scale, emotional resonance, and fearless authenticity.
Of the creative process, Rice shares: “The record was born from a time in my life where everything was changing. There was grief, there was healing, there was uncertainty — but there was also this kind of hunger to not just document it, but really confront it in the writing. And I think each track reflects that in its own way.”

Hailing from County Dublin, Ireland, and now living in Greystones, County Wicklow, for the last twenty years with his family, Garrett Anthony Rice intends to make a significant impact on the global music scene in 2025. “EQUINOX” is the first double album (18 songs) to be released by a debut solo artist artist as their second record in musical history, so the task of writing and completing this record was pretty daunting and enormous. Garrett released his debut album under the alias of (i) CONSULT in October 2023; entitled “Reflections Part II, the very best of……” which was streamed in 93 countries and peaked the interest of UK producer Chris Potter (The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, U2 and The Verve/ Richard Ashcroft) in late 2023.
