Hawaii born, California based artist Gavin Leatherwood returns today with his stunning single, Be My Lover, take a listen HERE. When it comes to songwriting my basic instinct is to write songs that are slow in tempo. Melodic, calm, thought provoking. When I was working on this album my manager challenged me to write something more upbeat, light, fun, relatable. On a night out in LA at an exclusive club/restaurant, a very beautiful and very famous woman entered the place and when she did it was like a light went on in the room. While Gavin may be best known for his acting roles, his budding music career exploded during the COVID-19 global pandemic as film and television productions shut down. Born during lockdown it was just a taste of what was to come as Gavin began to embrace this new musical career.
Born in Maui, Hawaii and raised in Orange County, CA Leatherwood began playing the piano and guitar as a teenager, while also honing his craft as an actor. He realized his passion for performing as he was growing up, visiting his mother while she was working as a general manager of a local theatre company. Leatherwood auditioned for his first professional play at just six years old: Arthur Miller’s All My Sons. From there, he continued to perform on stage throughout his formative years, landing a role in the national Broadway tour of Peter Pan opposite Cathy Rigby from 2004-2006, and screenplays such as Elevator at The Coast Playhouse and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Upon graduation from high school, Leatherwood submitted himself on small acting gigs and commercials, and saved up enough money to drive to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of working in film, television, and music full time.
When Leatherwood is not in the studio or on set, he can be found exploring the outdoors (nature is his sanctuary), riding his bike or visiting his family on their large farm in Oregon. He recently went on an excursion around the United States in his sprinter van turned camper. He is also a bit of a social media maverick, boasting over 3.8 million followers on Instagram, and counting. Leatherwood currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.
