Today, Gramatik and Luxas have released their collaborative album Cyberpunk 2020 OST – an imagined soundtrack for the year 2020 if it was a Cyberpunk film. Out October 23rd via Lowtemp, Cyberpunk 2020 OST channels the upheavals of 2020 culminating in a 17-song soundtrack created entirely with modular / analogue synthesizers and hardware. “Luxas and I had the idea to score some of the key world events of 2020 as if they were scenes unfolding in a slow-paced cyberpunk thriller,” explains Gramatik. “This is our soundtrack to the film that never was.”
AUTONOMOUS Short Film By Joe Sill
As a huge movie buff, Gramatik and Luxas draws inspiration from his favorite films like Blade Runner, The Matrix, and A Clockwork Orange, and takes that inspiration to score the Cyberpunk 2020 OST album based on the dystopian year of 2020. The sonic ambiance of the project, opening with “Futura,” ebbs and flows with an ominous feel that lends to the score’s overall foreboding atmosphere. Closing with “Roma Invicta,”Cyberpunk 2020 OST is meant to guide listeners as they reflect on the year 2020 thus far, letting each song serve as the soundtrack to whichever event the mind gravitates towards.
This soundtrack comes on the heels of a number of film soundtracks Gramatik and Luxas have composed in the last few years including The Condor, Duality,Last Night In New York, and the new animated short Autonomous. Autonomous, a dystopian tale about rogue motorcycle gangs in a futuristic, autonomous-driven world, features an entirely original score from Gramatik and Luxas. Watch Autonomous, directed by Joe Sill, here.
