Release follows recent single ‘Hold A Vibe’, both lifted from the forthcoming 25th anniversary box-set ‘GA25’
Following last month’s announcement of ‘GA25’ and lead single ‘Hold A Vibe’, Groove Armada return with their latest single ‘Edge Of The Horizon’ (GA25 live edit feat. Jess Larabee) out on the 28th of October via BMG.
Equally at home behind the decks as they are performing with a live band, Groove Armada have spent 25 years touring prolifically across the globe, playing to sold out venues everywhere from London to Sydney, to LA and back again.
The Groove Armada sound has always been in flux – with each new city and crowd bringing its own distinct vibe, some of the duo’s biggest hits have been imbued with new meaning, organically shifting and evolving within the live setting.
One such track is Edge Of The Horizon, the title track of their hit 2020 album. Inspired by the overwhelming audience reaction to it this summer during a string of festival dates and the band’s final full live tour – the dance titans reworked the track into an anthemic live edit, featuring singer Jess Larabee.
Fusing dreamy elements of early 90s Balearic with 00s Groove Armada – think Cafe Mambo 91’ and ‘Superstylin’’ – the live edit’s soft vocals, rhythmic drum beats and the duo’s signature upbeat funk will have you reminiscing about the hazy euphoria of summer.
On the track Groove Armada say:
“From the first live shows we knew we wanted to play dance music with a band. Making that blend of electronics and musicians work took time, and is probably our proudest achievements and has consequences. One of those consequences is that every gig is different and tunes evolve. How many times have we come off stage and wished the version we just played was the version on the album? Sometimes this gets to a point where we just have to re-record it. ‘Black Light’ became ‘White Light’ for that reason. So it is with EOTH. During the festivals this summer Saint Saviour made the song her own and the music evolved into a quiet anthem. There were moments when it was pushing Superstylin’ on the audience reaction charts. So here it is, reimagined onstage during summer ‘22”
25 years on from the release of their first single, ‘At The River’, Groove Armada, have become one of the most influential and successful dance acts of the 21st century, a position they have maintained, proving to be a dominant force in the UK and globally.
Earlier this year, the guys took to the road on a 9-date UK tour – their final full live UK tour – opening at Glasgow’s Barrowlands before closing out with two nights at Brixton Academy, where they were joined by Norman Jay MBE, PBR Streetgang and Ewan McVicar. A remix series followed, with the duo tapping up some of the industry’s brightest talents to rework their biggest tracks, including Logic1000, Dance System and Ewan McVicar.
Next up is the release ‘GA25’, a career-spanning box set packed full of their greatest tracks and most iconic hits. Out the 11th of November, the box-set is the culmination of over two decades of prolific production and uncompromising vision from two musicians who achieved the extraordinary, and proved that it’s daringly possible to explore a multitude of sounds while achieving commercial and critical success.
