Taken From Forthcoming Album ‘Judgement’
Set For Release This Summer
“Many people over the years have said to us, how the message in “That’s The Way Love Is” helped
them through a difficult breakup or relationship. It provided hope of the resilience of the Heart!”
Byron Stingily Ten City.
1989 – The year that birthed the second summer of love, was a fortuitous time for Ten City, as they
unleashed their own brand of House music, packed with love and positivity. In the process, they
captured the imagination of the nation’s youth and transformed themselves into a household name.
Now almost 25 years later and taken from their forthcoming album, ‘Judgement’ set for release this
summer, they re-release the 1989 classic ‘That’s The Way Love Is’ with a full edit from original
members Marshall Jefferson and Byron Stingily on the 9 th April.
The dance and soul-tinged single reached #8 in the UK’s official top 40 and #1 in the USA’s Dance
Club Play chart, as well as having influence on pop culture long after it was released, showing Ten
City’s impact and legacy. Although success in the UK was not always guaranteed and despite their
fortunes in the charts, along the way they had to take some risks. Their original label was not willing
to fund a UK tour, so Bryon Stingily took fate into his own hands and approached relatives for help…
“I went to see my grandmother, who was totally against me doing music and she told me to go over
and cut the hem of the curtains with a razor blade. So, I cut the hem and $10,000 in cash fell out the
bottom. We took that money and did a promotional tour of the UK.” – Byron Stingily
The Original ‘That’s The Way Love Is’ was taken from their debut album, ‘Foundation’ which was one
of a small handful of house albums released in the late 1980’s, that are now regarded as classics of the genre. After a 25-year hiatus Ten City have now returned to save us with perfect timing; In a world
of lies and misinformation, Stingily’s lyrical positivity has never been more needed than it is now.
Jefferson and Stingily’s new version is fully reworked, with a new string intro and resung by Byron
himself in his inimitable falsetto style. Complete with a new piano line, bright percussion and funky
guitar licks, that track still remains as uplifting and fresh as the day it was originally released.
With a flurry of new remixes on the way Ten City, continue to be influential and respected. Their new
5 th studio album ‘Judgement’ marks a sensational return for one of House Music’s most enduring
‘That’s The Way Love Is’ will be available April 9th via Ultra Music.
