As part of Apple Music’s Black History Month UK celebrations there are also special DJ Mixes from global icon Sir DJ Corey, and rising Afrobeat DJ Mercedes Benson. Throughout October, Apple Music will also retrace the influence of seminal albums that have inspired and pioneered the explosion of diverse UK sounds from the likes of Sampha, JME, Ms. Dynamite, Dave and Sade. Gospel singers and choirs including MOBO Award-winning Guvna B, The Kingdom Choir, Rachel Kerr, CalledOut Music and The Spirituals have recorded their very own Apple Music Home Session. Plus, Apple Music takes a deep dive into the world of Afrobeats with the launch of Afrobeats Essentials – a playlist exploring the 100 songs, moments and artists that changed the landscape for Afrobeats and its sub-genres in Britain. To coincide with the launch, a special episode of Blackout Radio aired on Apple Music 1 with Juls, Hemah K and Tom Moutchi joining host Dotty to discuss the playlist in full and pick their top 10 Afrobeats tracks of all time.
