Huddersfield-based rising star Iris Danbury, 13, releases her sophomore single ‘About You’ – An exciting addition to her discography following the breakout success of her debut ‘I Don’t Care’
Where ‘I Don’t Care’ was a joyful declaration of self-worth, ‘About You’ turns its attention outward: a pop-punk / indie rock tribute to the friends who show up exactly when you need them. Danbury has said the track is about “friendships and special people that show up unexpectedly in your life when the time is right and you need them the most.”
Creative reference points sit alongside Olivia Rodrigo, Paramore, Avril Lavigne, and Busted – youthful energy pinned to real songwriting instinct. The track began life after an open mic set, when a local musician wrote a song with Iris that was later reshaped around her voice and personality, built out with sampled drums and live guitars, and recorded at a local studio.
Danbury’s performing life stretches back to age five – competitions, busking, youth theatre, open mics – and reaches wider audiences through her appearances in McDonald’s beloved “Ellie & Archie” Christmas advert (2019) and the PureGym 2025/26 campaign. Off stage, she describes herself as the quiet one, the mediator, the friend who puts others first; on stage, she says, “something else entirely” takes over.
‘About You’ arrives as Iris continues to build momentum live, with a slot opening a local festival on 16th August, alongside ongoing busking and open mic performances. Further releases are planned within the next three months as part of a growing and anticipated catalogue.
