Self-produced singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Harrogate, North Yorkshire Widescreen indie-rock for over-thinkers, late bloomers, wanderers and dreamers.

Artist Bio

Jake Pattinson is a self-produced singer-songwriter from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, creating widescreen indie-rock inspired by artists including The Killers, Bleachers, Bruce Springsteen, Sam Fender, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Elton John.

Growing up in Yorkshire but drawn to the sense of possibility found in American rock music, Jake’s songs explore the space between where you are and where you dream of being. His writing is rooted in honest storytelling, big choruses and the feeling that even ordinary moments can carry something bigger.

After years of chasing music in different forms, Jake’s current solo project represents a clearer vision of who he is as an artist. His songs reflect on relationships, ambition, nostalgia, uncertainty and the strange process of figuring out where you belong.

Jake writes for over-thinkers, late bloomers, wanderers and dreamers; for anyone who has ever looked back and wondered how they ended up here, while still believing there might be something good waiting further down the road.

Jake Pattinson confronts the ghosts of a past relationship on third single “Part of Me”

Self-produced singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jake Pattinson returns on 25th September with “Part of Me”, exploring the emotional afterlife of a relationship and the unexpected ways people continue to shape us long after they’ve left.

Blending The Killers-style widescreen indie rock with the heartland storytelling of artists like Sam Fender and Bruce Springsteen, “Part of Me” is built on shimmering synths, acoustic and electric guitars, and a driving 120 BPM pulse that feels made for late-night drives and windows-down escapes.

At its heart, the song is about the pieces of another person that remain within us: the traits we pick up, the memories that refuse to fade, and the moments that suddenly bring the past rushing back into the present.

“There’s still a part of you in a part of me, do you feel it too? / Some ghosts they never leave us, they’re just hiding out of view.”

The song was inspired by a series of real-life moments that lingered long after a breakup. One Christmas Eve, six months after the relationship had ended, Pattinson’s ex unexpectedly called him while his phone sat face-up on the coffee table in front of his new girlfriend and close friends. He never answered, but the unanswered question of why she called became one of the emotional threads running through the song.

Another moment arrived unexpectedly in a Harrogate pub, where Jake bumped into a man who had been a regular at his ex’s father’s pub near Doncaster, a place where Pattinson had spent countless evenings playing gigs, talking nonsense over pints, and becoming part of another family’s world. The encounter felt, in his words, “like seeing a ghost,” and later took on even greater significance after the man passed away from cancer.

Rather than focusing solely on romantic loss, “Part of Me” reflects on the people who disappear from our lives because of a breakup: friends, parents, familiar places, and futures that never happened.

“I think people talk a lot about missing an ex, but not enough about missing the people and places that came with them. Sometimes a relationship ends and you lose someone’s dad, their local pub, their family, and this version of yourself that existed in that world. Part of Me is about those ghosts that still turn up every now and then” says Jake.

Jake recorded much of the single in his spare bedroom, while his friend Nuno Oliveira recorded the drums in his loft, giving the release a deeply personal, independent spirit that mirrors the honesty of the songwriting itself.

The artwork for “Part Of Me” is a photograph of Jake taken during a messy night at a local working men’s club near Doncaster. The photo was taken by the former partner who inspired the song, making the artwork itself part of the story it tells. It reflects Jake’s approach to the project as a whole: using real moments, places and memories rather than manufactured imagery, and allowing the visuals to become an extension of the songwriting.

“Part of Me” is Jake’s third standalone single, following continued support from Jericho Keys at BBC Introducing Yorkshire & The Humber, Simon Pattinson at The York Mix and plays on Amazing Radio.

A self-produced singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Harrogate, Jake Pattinson creates widescreen indie rock with classic heartland storytelling, writing songs that are meant to be played loud while driving somewhere you’ve never been, or somewhere you can’t quite get back to.
