Julian Taylor Shares Gentle, Acoustic Rendition of “Seeds,” featuring Carsen Gray

Julian Taylor’s uplifting and resilient song, “Seeds,” was written in light of ongoing police brutality and racism, including the deaths of thousands of Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools. The perpetrators of these crimes have not faced justice.

For this new rendition, Taylor collaborated with Haida singer-songwriter Carsen Gray on this new acoustic version of the song, which allows its lyrics to be front and centre. “Her voice is very gentle and I even think it sounds childlike at times which suits the song very well considering the meaning of it,” adds Taylor.

Seeds” stands for “Somehow Everyone Eventually Dreams.” The song’s hope is poignant, buoyed by soft acoustic guitar, piano, and strings. “North American governments and the Church tried to erase the identity of thousands of people, but despite these efforts, Indigenous culture and Black culture have remained steadfast and strong,” states Taylor.
