Junebug Debuts Intricate New Single for “Hurt A Fly”

Junebug falls into a specific category of artists whose music can be described as therapeutic, and her latest single, “Hurt A Fly,” perfectly exemplifies this. Her music, as a singer-songwriter, is characterized by its light and introspective nature, making it easy to listen to. It is refreshingly honest and straightforward, yet it possesses a soothing quality that is truly comforting. This style is well in line with what you would find on her debut EP, Turncoat, released in 2021. The songs on the EP are expressive and vulnerable, creating a casual and conversational atmosphere while still diving deep into introspection. They have a thought-provoking quality, yet they do not overwhelm the ears or the mind. In many ways, Junebug’s music echoes the folk and light rock sounds of the 1960s and 1970s, which were known for their ability to provide a sense of tranquility and ease.

Caroyln Fahrner, the brainchild of Junebug shares:

“‘Hurt A Fly’ is the feeling of anticipatory anxiety, like something catastrophic might happen, and you’re just bracing yourself for the worst. At first, the song was about the sadistic wish of wanting someone to live up to the pain you believe they could cause you. However, I soon realized that living in constant fear of how others might hurt you is a damage to yourself. None of us are incapable of causing harm, we are all capable of hurting others, and even more so capable of inflicting unwanted harm upon ourselves unknowingly. The culmination of all of these various strands of thoughts lead to the creation of ‘Hurt A Fly.’”

Junebug, also known as Carolyn Fahrner, is currently working on an upcoming EP that will feature the captivating single “Hurt A Fly” alongside a collection of new songs. While an official release date has yet to be announced, it is anticipated to be unveiled by the end of the summer. In the creation of this EP, Junebug has made a conscious decision to embrace all aspects of her life, both positive and challenging, fearlessly delving into her vulnerabilities. The result is a collection of songs that not only showcase her artistic talent but also serve as a therapeutic outlet. Drawing inspiration from her personal experiences and introspective musings, Fahrner’s lyrics are often rooted in her own life journey. Furthermore, her passion for philosophy, stemming from her double major college degree in Philosophy and Psychology, serves as a significant wellspring of creativity in her songwriting process. By channeling her introspective thoughts and blending them with her artistic vision, Junebug crafts songs that resonate on a profound level, offering a unique blend of introspection and artistic expression.

Junebug’s music is bold, honest and even vulnerable at times. Her music is conversational and casual, but introspective. With an admiration for 60s / 70s Folk and Rock music, Junebug channels influences such as The Beatles, Joni Mitchell and Simon & Garfunkel. Digging a bit deeper, she finds inspiration in artists like Indigo De Souza, Elanor Moss, Madison Cunningham, and Christian Lee Hutson, alongside modern day contemporaries Big Thief, Adrienne Lenker, Phoebe Bridgers, Feist, Alice Phoebe Lou, Orla Gartland, Soccer Mommy, and Andy Shauf.
