In 2021, Justin Jay celebrated 5 years of his label Fantastic Voyage, which has become a welcoming home for artists behind its reputation for putting creative’s visions first. In a sonic world where feeling and mood are every bit as important as the style of music, the label’s milestone finds it marching forward on a noble journey of discovery, while recruiting a wide cast of musical characters from around the globe.
In February, Justin returned to conceptual, thematic releases with the VOYAGER 001 mixtape, which explored old-school rave nostalgia. Today, on Justin’s actual birthday, the producer is reinvigorating this friendly approach to sounds and style with a new track, “Alone on My Bday.” Featuring original vocals and Dua Lipa samples, the new single reestablishes his intention to adventure into affable compositions via fast-paced dance soundscapes.
With “Nu-Rave,” dreamers and dancers alike can experience a melting pot of styles that span footwork, breaks, happy hardcore and more. Those who have seen Justin recognize his unrelenting ability to break these tracks out in unsuspecting environs, always with a smile on his face and a feeling of open-mindedness in tow.
This month, Justin kicks off his Where is the PLUR? Tour, which will provide a new experience than past Fantastic Voyage tour stops. Whereas previous runs often included FV’s open format and live performance aspects, this latest tour will offer a head first dive into the rave experience. Joining him will be AK Sports and Nikki Nair, artists known for their dexterity on the decks and recent contributors to Fantastic Voyage’s 5 Year compilation. Highlights include stops on both coasts, as well as intimate gatherings at Meow Wolf locations in Denver and Santa Fe.
Launching his music career from his freshman dorm room, the Los Angeles-based Producer/DJ, Justin Jay, has already seen success that extends well beyond his years. Justin has been recognized as a “Future Star” by trusted tastemakers such as Pete Tong, gone on to release with Patrick Topping’s Trick label and even Nicole Moudaber’s techno-savvy MOOD Records. His career accolades have extended to more avant-garde purveyors of rave revival sonics as well, finding releases with the likes of Shall Not Fade and Childsplay.
Fantastic Voyage’s 5 year anniversary has a simple mission – get out of the artists’ way and let them create what feels most authentic to them.
