Australian artist/producer JVLY continues the anticipation build for his upcoming SUNDERLUXE EP with ‘STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM’, a reimagined take on one of the project’s defining moments. While the original version found its place on SUNDER as a slow-burning blend of R&B, soul and electronic textures, this new interpretation revisits the song’s earliest form, bringing its original energy back to life.
Driven by shimmering synths, punchy guitars and an infectious funky groove, STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM feels both familiar and entirely new.
Rather than simply remixing the original, JVLY uncovers the version that existed before the song evolved, offering listeners a glimpse into the creative process that shaped SUNDER while opening the door to the parallel world of SUNDERLUXE.
“Funny thing is, STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM is actually how the song was born,” JVLY explains. “When I first laid down those Juno chords, and the almost Daft Punk kind of guitars, they were living at this exact tempo. I ended up stripping everything back into that half-time, R&B soul groove for the original that you hear in SUNDER, where I found the pocket for the vocal, but I never forgot the energy of that original demo. I guess it turned out that this version was meant to wait, because it fits perfectly with what the B-Side of the record eventually became, which is like a parallel universe of SUNDER.”
Serving as another chapter in the SUNDERLUXE story, STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM highlights JVLY’s instinct for reshaping familiar ideas into something fresh, proving that the songs we know can still reveal entirely new perspectives.
