Liela Moss (pronounced Lee-LA) is back with an ominous, brooding swaggering snake of a track as she unveils single, Reward. Known as a solo artist, The Duke Spirit front woman, a fashion muse, and more recently mother, Liela’s work has been critically lauded by tastemakers and music fans alike.
Produced by production duo and remixers IYEARA (Mark Lanegan, Humanist), Reward pulses with woozy synths, distorted beats, and Moss’s commanding vocal which seek to challenge cultural shallowness, with words that roll out in pursuit of deep, alive peace.
Reward follows three solo records, 2008s ´My Name is Safe In Your Mouth´, 2020s´Who The Power´ and 2023s ´Internal Working Model´, as well as five albums with The Duke Spirit, Reward finds Liela advancing into a more daring direction.
As Liela explains, “This is me staring directly into feelings of insufficiency and asking, ‘what is this tension, this holding on?’. I want a life where wellbeing is not dependant on outcome, and I want to feel like I ride in a clear space. If all I want is ‘arrival’, then the journey is not so cool, is it?.Can I, can we collectively, work hard to override the spell of the ego and instead be satisfied in the present moment? I’m looking for that place where ego subsides and that constant yearning is simply not there. What if we could collectively, globally calm that ‘wanting’ down!? Dissolve the grip of the ego; contribute to existence rather than mine resources to temporarily ‘fix’ a desire… I’m writing about the vanity we all get caught up in.”
Liela’s extensive work as an artist has picked up a well of support across the industry with the likes of SPIN, NME, Clash Magazine, Uncut, MOJO, Record Collector and many more praising her ambitious sound. Reward will be the first of a number of singles to be released in 2024, culminating in live dates in October this year.
