Linney returns with empowering synth pop gem ‘Super Human’

LA based artist Linney returns with a brand new track ‘Super Human’, out 2nd December through Helix Records.

Following on from her recent singles ‘Run to the Forest’ and ‘Garden, ‘Super Human’ seeks optimism and puts Linney’s emotive delivery front and centre, characterised by evocative songwriting and storytelling.

Linney explains: “As a songwriter, you get used to pitching most everything you write to other artists. But “Super Human” was always one of those records I’d hoped to hold onto. We shopped it around and had some strong interest but nothing ever totally clicked. I even had a couple artists tell me they didn’t know what to do with it, because it was perfect as is. Still to this day, this record makes me cry. And I know I’m an emotional person, but not many songs can do that for me. I’ve always known there was something special about this song and I feel so lucky that I’m finally releasing it the way I hear it.

She goes on to add: ““Super Human” was written on Zoom with Jeff Schoeny & Britt Pols. The night before our session, I started working out a couple ideas on piano. The melody for the chorus came to me first. I legit have a voice memo of me singing the melody (no lyrics at that point) where I start crying. It’s both hilarious and moving because I’m singing gibberish and you can hear my voice starting to get stuck in my throat the way it does when you begin to cry. The song is a vulnerable confession of accepting what makes us human. ‘I wish I was strong like you…’ is the first line of the song. It’s about having someone in your life who makes you feel limitless. Like you can do anything. You’re a regular person on your own, but with this person by your side – you are super human. Fun fact. I surprised my husband and had our wedding DJ play the demo version of this song at the reception last year. I’ll never forget that moment. Who knows, maybe someday someone else will play it at their wedding too. Music lets you live forever.”
