Following on from their recent singles ‘SIGNS’ and ‘Red Earth’, London based music duo, Planets are back with their latest output ‘Winner’! With huge riffs and stunning vocals, the track pulls you in from the moment you hit play.

Describing the meaning behind the track, Hector Castro (guitarist) explains how ‘Winner’ is “Intended to motivate people like me, who’ve been too afraid to put the work in and fight for what they really want in life. There are many points of inspiration for this song, but we just really hope it
gives listeners more confidence in themselves and what they’re capable of individually, and as part of a collective.
The words stem from an intuition of a person yet to fulfil their potential. I had a lot of support growing up, probably more than most. But all I did was take it for granted and I think I was too lazy (or risk averse) to do the right thing. The song starts with a conversation with that side of me, and ultimately it’s about taking back control and trying to finally build a life I wanted.”
From the material they’ve released thus far, you can tell that the writing dynamic between Charlotte King & Hector is both unique and impressive. It displays a strong vision, and huge promise for their future. Hector explains how “The creative process starts with a melodic idea I keep coming back to. When I pick up the guitar to write, I’m always searching for connection and something that excites me. Lyrics ordinarily come later on when I’ve got a workable harmonic structure, but words and
phrases can often passenger the melodic idea right from the beginning. Then it’s very much a collaborative effort to make everything sound optimum. This is when Charlotte brings my ‘zombie’ ideas to life. Almost every meaningful component is elevated to a really exciting place, and then it’s just a matter of decorating the tree. ‘Winner’ really took shape after we had the verse and pre chorus’ recorded. We both felt the song needed to modulate to a major key in the chorus; I suppose this is an example of the song telling us what it needs.”
London based music duo, Planets, formed by guitarist Hector Castro and vocalist Charlotte King. The duo launched with their debut single, Red Earth, in July 2024, shortly followed by their sophomore release entitled SIGNS in October. Although Planets have only been active for a few months, with just two songs released, they have already achieved more than many would anticipate. Their rapid progress hints at great things ahead, indicating the “planets” may have aligned favourably for the duo.
