With three single releases already under his belt, Boukie continues his exploration of Afrofuturism on ‘Strip Away/Spooky C’. Teaming up once again with longtime collaborators Jonas Drema (Spooky C) and Leon Somov (Strip Away) Boukie delves further into race, identity and claiming one’s space in the diaspora. Both tracks outlay the fusion of his own music history, with elements of electronic, drum & bass and dub, creating a promising teaser for what’s to come on the forthcoming debut album, ‘Rnig’.

‘Strip Away’ is a more mellowed out summer-ready affair than previous singles ‘Nightcrawler’ and ‘Soulvapour’, dubbed out drums give way to an undeniably hypnotic groove, punctuated by a decisive vocal, at times reminiscent of Maxi Jazz. Teeming with emotion, on ‘Spooky C’ Boukie takes a more stripped back, percussive approach, railing the vocal against sparse, melodic beats, while rapping about overcoming oppression and rising above dark forces.

Both releases come with bespoke videos, directed by Ka Boukie, produced by A.Xodus Productions, and featuring martial artist Edmund Bugnosen and recurring models, Brianna and Nicole.

A professionally trained drummer, in 2017, Boukie released his own self produced conceptual experimental EP “PHRAKTURE”, receiving critical acclaim. His career to date spans shows that include supporting hip hop legends Mobb Deep at Galapagai festival, as well as the internationally renowned jazz festival Kanus Jazz, where he performed spoken word, as well as rapping and singing. He is a regular host on London’s Threads Radio, has previously opened the Oxford jazz festival and as a drummer has played a number of respected stages including Glastonbury, BoomTown and more.

‘Strip away/Spooky C’ are taken from the forthcoming debut album, ‘Rnig’, out on the 26th of august.
