Lowhours are delighted to announce the release of their debut single Hemisphere.
Featuring Tame Impala and Pond drummer Julien Barbagallo, Hemisphere is a woozy psych-rock Channeling an eclectic range of influences from Pond to Radiohead and Flaming Lips to Johnny Marr.
Balancing organic instrumentation with synthetic textures, Hemisphere straddles the line between melancholy and melodic. Exploring themes of disconnection, reflection & existential unease the track is framed by sci-fi-inspired visuals and apocalyptic yet serene atmospherics. The result of which is a song that subverts the typical pop formula feeling constantly in bloom; intriguingly unpredictable yet unerringly catchy.
Lowhours is the project of Southampton-based musician and producer Brad Dorey. A multi-instrumentalist & self-produced songwriter, Dorey’s passion for detailed, emotionally rich vignettes has shaped a distinctive style of songwriting, seamlessly blending elements of art-rock, neo-psychedelia and dream-pop.
Hemisphere was originally sparked through a jam with friend and collaborator Ben Ysselmuiden, before evolving through multiple rebirths. Impressively, Dorey performed every instrument on the track himself with the exception of drums which was filled by Tame Impala and Pond drummer Julien Barbagallo. Reflecting on Barbagallo’s inclusion on the record Dorey commented, “His feel was in my head from the moment I wrote it (the track). Rather than try to emulate that, I reached out on a whim to see if he’d be open to playing on the song and he said yes!” While Dorey recorded and produced the song himself, Hemisphere was mixed by Max Goulding (Black Midi, Shame, Martha Skye Murphy), who’s expertise further elevates the track’s intimate textural detail.
