Lucky Idiot ‘Low Ceiling’ (EP)

Low Ceiling EP by Lucky Idiot on SoundCloud - Hear the world's sounds

Australian three-piece Lucky Idiot is made up of Maxwell Byrne (Golden Vessel), Kalem Woo (Rei So La) and Rei Sakakibara (Sweater Curse). They gave us their debut single ‘Mud’ back in September which was met with much praise & attention from tastemakers & curators around the world, and they’re coming back to us this week with their five-track debut ep, “Low Ceiling”.

The title track is a love letter to the band’s sleepy hometown of Brisbane, sung over calm, laid back instrumentation. Lazy drum fills and warm interwoven guitars continue throughout the ep. Tracks like ‘Superglue’ feel intimate and murky but overall the ep is far from tame with the pace picking up on tracks like debut single ‘Mud’ and the driving and playful ep closer ‘Trouble’. This body of work is an exciting glimpse of what listeners can expect to hear from this collaboration in the near future

“We started Lucky Idiot on a bit of a whim, just for fun. Because of all the time we had at home this year we took ideas that we’d thrown around over the summer and borrowed a Tascam tape machine and started recording. We wrote Low Ceiling over summer, sort of as a love letter to Brisbane. How the ceiling’s pretty low, there’s not always a lot going on here but it feels good.” – Maxwell Byrne
