Machine Woman remixes derek muro this July on Brooklyn’s toucan sounds.
Following his debut full-length ‘cues’, released earlier this year on toucan sounds, derek muro recruits Machine Woman for a remix of standout album cut ‘rill2’. Chalking up releases on Where To Now?, Ninja Tune’s sister label Technicolour, and her own Take Away Jazz Records, the Russian native delivers a typically dense and hypnotic take on muro’s original work.
Across the ‘Lower Manhattan Rework’, Machine Woman adds a pulsing 4/4 underneath snippets of her trademark spoken word, re-imagining elements from muro’s densely ambient track into a deep and trippy affair. The ‘Upper Manhattan Instrumental Rework’ strips the vocals away, focusing instead on her intricate production for a bonus addition to the package.
derek muro is a creator of music that embraces concepts of emotion, memory, and perception in his work. Beginning his career from an art space in Bushwick while working weekend shifts as a church organist on Long Island, he is now an award-winning composer for film and game as a partner at the YouTooCanWoo studio in Brooklyn, having a diverse career that has wound through the studios of Hans Zimmer, with performances at BAM and the Yale Institute for Music Theatre.
derek muro & Machine Woman ‘rill2 (Reworks)’ lands on toucan sounds on 13th July 2021.
