Matt Jones and The Bobs releases new single and video for “Isn’t It Strange”

The new single and video for “Isn’t It Strange” from Americana meets soulful folk-rock risers Matt Jones and The Bobs. The track is an acoustic-leaning folk standout, pairing nostalgic storytelling with a hopeful way forward.

Set against a backdrop of analog warmth and ’90s-tinged Americana, “Isn’t It Strange” is driven by bright, rhythmic guitar, intimate vocals, and irresistible pedal steel guitar as Matt Jones reflects on small-town memories, past loves, and the space between who he was and who he is now. The accompanying video doubles as a love letter to Washington, D.C., using the Metro’s stark, geometric stations as a metaphor for movement and self-discovery, culminating in a bloom of cherry blossoms that underscore the song’s central message that even life’s strangest detours can lead somewhere unexpectedly good. “It’s about waking up one day and recognizing that every messy, beautiful moment you lived through led you to a place where your world couldn’t be any better than it is right now,” says Jones.

Hailing from Southwest Virginia, Matt Jones and the Bobs create songs that feel like snapshots of real life, vividly capturing the raw essence of front porch conversations, long drives, and everything in between. The band’s sound pulls from the storytelling lineage of John Prine and Jackson Browne, the roots-driven energy of The Avett Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show, and the enduring spirit of The Band and Tom Petty, all filtered through their ’90s upbringing. “Isn’t It Strange” is the third single from their forthcoming full-length project to be released this summer. The band has already amassed hundreds of thousands of views and streams since the project’s start, underscoring their rapid ascent.

Emerging from the heart of Southwest Virginia, Matt Jones and The Bobs have woven a tapestry of raw emotion and  timeless storytelling since their formation in 2011. The band first came together during their time at Radford University,  where Matt Jones (vocals, guitar) and his bandmates—affectionately known as “the Bobs” —took their shared passion  for Americana, roots, and classic rock, and transformed it into a sound that resonated with listeners on a deeply  personal level. Their debut album, “Brother’s Hymn”, released in 2014 while they were still in college, marked the  beginning of their journey into the world of music. With tracks that captured the essence of small-town life, love, loss,  and the everyday struggles that come with growing up, the album quickly gained a loyal following for its honest  songwriting and gritty performances.

But like many bands that start in their youth, the road ahead was not without its twists and turns. After years of intense  dedication to their music, the members of Matt Jones and The Bobs took a step back in 2015, each pursuing individual  careers, business ventures, and entrepreneurial pursuits. The band entered a hiatus, but the bonds forged through  years of creating music together remained unbreakable. For ten years, the members thrived in their own respective  worlds, but the pull of music—the connection to their roots, their storytelling, and their shared experiences—was  always there, simmering under the surface.
Fast forward to 2024, and Matt Jones and The Bobs have reunited, bringing their signature sound back to life with  renewed energy and purpose. Though they’ve stepped back into the world of music after a decade, their roots in  Americana, folk, and southern rock remain as strong as ever. However, this new chapter carries fresh twists—a subtle  infusion of 90s influences, a bit of grunge grit, and more expansive instrumentation that complements their established  sound. The heart of their music remains, however, unwavering: a commitment to capturing the emotional essence of  life, love, heartbreak, and the triumphs and trials that make us human.
The band’s songwriting is nothing short of iconic, blending storytelling with profound vulnerability. Each song is a  narrative—a glimpse into the human experience through the lens of Matt Jones’ deeply personal lyrics. From tales of  love and heartbreak to reflections on death, struggle, and the perseverance needed to keep going, the music  continues to strike a chord with listeners. It’s a sound that feels both familiar and fresh, a nostalgic journey through the  ups and downs of life that feels like an old friend whispering in your ear.
The music of Matt Jones and The Bobs isn’t just a collection of songs; it’s an invitation to relive the highs and lows of  existence. It’s a sound that will transport you back to moments of personal significance, where the struggles and joys  of life feel not only relatable, but necessary for growth. With each note, they invite their audience to embrace their own  stories, finding solace in the knowledge that they are not alone in the journey.
As they step into this exciting new phase of their career, Matt Jones and The Bobs continue to honor their roots while  exploring new sonic territory. They’ve grown, they’ve evolved, but the heart of the band—the soul of what made them  so beloved in the first place—is as powerful as ever. Matt Jones and The Bobs aren’t just back—they’re  stepping forward, louder, stronger, and more determined than ever to share their stories with the world. And with  music that is as timeless as it is fresh, they are ready to continue leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of their listeners beginning with their second full studio self titled album “Matt Jones and the Bobs”.
Their latest single “Isn’t It Strange” is about “

waking up one day and recognizing that every messy, beautiful moment you lived through led you to a place where your world couldn’t be any better than it is right now. It comes from our last year in college together. The words formed when a realization struck me one night that I could never have asked for better band mates, friendship, or memories with that specific group of people. It was so strange because it was so perfect at that specific time in our lives,” Matt Jones confides.
