Navigating matters of the heart with impressive and cathartic songwriting, Matt Taylor’s new single April 13th is a stunning insight into his world. Born from a conflicting time, April 13th is an emotive dose of weightless alt-pop. Sharing more, Matt explained: “After I took some time away I met back up with him in mid September to put it all to rest, and it’s really just about that whole conversation.

I knew where the conversation was ultimately going to go, but I was kind of shocked by how dismissive he was of it all. It was so confusing to me that everything was changing, from why it had all happened in the first place to why he even spent time with me.

What hurt the most was when he told me that the only reason he had been spending so much time with me was because he had nothing better to do. It hurt so much because it’s so cowardly. He couldn’t even take responsibility for the choices he made. After this conversation, I cut him out entirely and I wrote the track about three weeks later.”

April 13th is the follow up to the Brighton-based artists latest single ‘no matter what I say’ which came as a powerful stripped back moment last month. Variance Magazine penned Matt’s vocals as ‘Mesmerizing’ and the track scooped New Music Friday & it flew straight into the top 3, in the iTunes chart. The track offered a change of pace in contrast to ‘GODSPEED’, a weightless slice of genre-bending electro-pop. GODSPEED came out back in february and Clash magazine described it as ‘music that feels as though it has been beamed in from the future’ and Radio 1 described it as ‘intoxicating’.

Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Matt Taylor has been honing his craft over the last few years, pulling inspiration from the energy and courage in music such as SOPHIE’s and looking to the storytelling and songwriting in the likes of Taylor Swift’s and Lorde’s music.

Matt Taylor has been turning heads and winning hearts at every stage since he launched. From Apple Music, to front-page placement on Vevo, and as a Spotify “One to Watch” with consistent DSP support including NMF, New Pop UK and Fresh Finds. He’s also made his mark in music press scooping support from the likes of Gay Times, Clash, Variance, EARMILK, Golden Plec and many more.

Now based in Brighton, Matt is driven to create music as catharsis: “reading back over my lyrics as a conversation is a chance to reflect on  mistakes and learn from my flaws. I also think that‘s why people easily connect to my music“.

Releasing as an independent artist and sat on a wealth of chart threatening dynamic singles, Matt Taylor is someone to champion as your artist to watch this year.
