Released on 1st December, “Whatever” is a project five years in the making that showcases Avision’s
undeniable wealth of multi-genre ability across House, Techno and Breaks.
Following the relaunch of MATTER+ Recordings from Victor Calderone alongside Avision, the releases continue to impress as the latest offering sees Avision join forces with fellow New Yorker Xander to piece together an exploratory project they began half a decade ago. “Whatever” challenges the
narrative around releases you expect Avision to put his name to, delving into his multifaceted
understanding of captivating electronic dance genres to turn out three individually head-turning
dancefloor cuts alongside Xander that showcase an innate wealth of creativity between the pair.

“Working with Xander has been amazing. I remember he sent me the first draft of “Whatever” about
five years ago. I knew this record needed something; the vocal was super catchy, so I asked him to send
me the parts. From there on, we sent projects back and forth and wrote three different cuts of the record that can be played at different parts of the night. I’m really ecstatic about all three versions and
watching the reactions on the dance floor has been amazing.” – Avision.
The release kicks off with the archetypal Heavy Cut of “Whatever”, hitting you head-on with a flurry
of industrial percussive harshness and weighty driving drum grooves alongside the first emergence of
the hooky vocal that plays an instrumental part in all three versions of the track. From the outset, a peak-time NY techno vibe filled with subtle musicality and pumping energy from start to finish.
The 7am Mix, delivers a more house demeanour via it’s toughened kicks, fizzing hi-hats and a gloriously moody bassline that twists and intensifies to meet the tide of the track. Endlessly groovy
throughout, it’s an impressive deviation from its predecessor that will keep you on your toes.
The release rounds off with a stunning Breaks Mix, channelling nostalgic electro vibes and chunky
beats alongside edgy pensive synths and mind-bending alterations of the vocal to take you on a rough and ready two-stepping journey.
“Whatever” further accommodates much of Avision’s recent efforts to push the boundaries of musical typecasting that have seen him broaden his musical arsenal, including telling remixes for Laurent Garnier, Madben, Marc Romboy and more.
