Emmy nominated singer, songwriter and actress Mckenna Grace released today her single, Self Dysmorphia via Photo Finish Records available to stream now on all DSPs
Self Dysmorphia is the latest single release from the sixteen-year-old acclaimed singer and actress off of her highly anticipated upcoming 2023 EP. Grace’s powerful fan base continues to grow as evidenced by her recent TikTok postings which exceeded over 38M views.
The radiantly harmonious and emotionally charged new track showcases Mckenna’s strength both as a vocalist and songwriter, offering a brilliantly unfiltered balance between teenage exuberance and crushing self-doubt. Starring and directed by Grace, the companion music video features Mckenna in her bedroom humorously pondering the effects of “Instagram Depression” caused by a world which only seems concerned with outer appearances.
Of the track, Mckenna states,
“I wrote this song at a time when I was dealing with a lot of body issues from my scoliosis and was in a dark hole of comparing myself to other people on social media. At the time, I wiped my entire Twitter account because I had read a thread of brutal comments from thousands of people talking about my appearance, my acting and my voice. I wrote the song to release my emotions. I never felt like I wanted to release this song because I was afraid that people wouldn’t understand why I felt like this or would think I was just feeling sorry for myself or trying to get attention. After sitting on the song for a few months and playing it for my label and a few of my friends, I realized that people are going to think what they want to think about me, my intentions and my heart. I guess I am putting the song out there so that other people can see that it doesn’t matter how much you think you know someone or how amazing their life may look like from the outside, they too can be carrying around these weighted emotions and personal struggles. And as with most songs I write, I hope that people know they aren’t alone.”
Self Dysmorphia’s musical release follows a string of high-profile theatrical roles for Mckenna including her Emmy nominated return as Esther Keyes in “The Handmaids Tale”, and her starting role in Peacock’s True Crime hit, “A Friend of the Family”. It is also a sonic companion to her critically acclaimed single Post Party Trauma and the previously released, 34M+ streaming breakthrough singles, You Ruined Nirvana, HERE , do all my friends hate me? HERE and the Ghostbusters: Afterlife featured and 3OH!3-member Nathaniel Motte produced debut single, Haunted House HERE.
