Pairing pitched-up vocals and breakbeats with poignant piano chords and fluttering soundscapes, ‘Sweet Surrender’ finds a middle ground between rave-era hedonism and introverted ambient electronica. It follows a remix of ‘Don’t Waste My Time’ by Midlands-born artist lau.ra which dropped earlier this year.

At the core of Model Man is Mark Brandon, creating euphoric yet cathartic productions which he has surrounded with a live band. Consisting of Tommy Galbally (bass & keys) and Andy Grant (drums), this setup breathes new life into Brandon’s creations, making for a truly exciting live show.

Speaking about the making of ‘Sweet Surrender’, Brandon says, “I made Sweet surrender between 3am and 7am fuelled on fizzy drinks. The BPM went up in accordance with my heart rate lol.”

He continues, “I played the piano motif on my upright that was slightly out of tune at the time. For me, Sweet Surrender is about re aligning with the natural urges. going on pure instinct. Letting go. Outer body type stuff.”

Model Man has been making waves with some of dance music’s biggest players over recent years. Fusing ambient electronics with elements of bass culture, Brandon’s creative stance pits the physical against the cerebral, often with striking results. Since releasing music, he has garnered support from BBC Radio 1 6 Music alike, tastemaker publications The FADER and Clash, co-signs from Defected and Astralwerks, as well as praise from fellow artists and DJs including TSHA and Prospa.

A stunning electronic creation that draws on a number of different subgenres, ‘Sweet Surrender’ is the work of an artist’s immense production talents.
