He will also perform at East London venue Oslo on 3rd March.
Ahead of his headline show at Oslo on 3rd March, UK electronic talent Model Man has unveiled new project Impromptus EP, out today on Mahogany Records.
A four-track release, Impromptus EP was created over the course of a single weekend and is intended to be listened to as a complete piece of movements.
Kicking things off, ‘Impromptu No. 1 (Apogee)’ taps into Model Man’s trademark sound: an irresistible combination of emotion-tinged, rave-inflected electronica that immediately sets the tone. Next up, ‘Impromptu No. 2 (Apex)’ is a more sombre affair, filled with delicate piano chords, affecting strings and slow-burning synths, while ‘Impromptu No. 3 (Zenith)’ finds a middle-ground between the energies of the first two tracks. Closing things out, ‘Impromptu No. 4 (Shiji)’ is a powerfully wistful creation that leaves a lasting impression.
“It was a really dark and strange time,” Model Man reflects. “I was going through a load of personal stuff also and had some inner demons to conquer. Making these tracks was obviously some sort of therapy looking back now. The last track on the EP is the most vulnerable I’ve felt making a tune.”
His first release of the new year, it follows Model Man’s breath-taking eponymous debut album, a critically-acclaimed LP supported by BBC Radio 1 tastemakers Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Sian Eleri and Jack Saunders amongst others.
At the core of Model Man is Mark Brandon, who has been making waves with some of dance music’s biggest players. Fusing ambient electronics with elements of bass culture, Brandon’s creative stance pits the physical against the cerebral, often with striking results. Since releasing music, he has garnered support from BBC Radio 1, Clash Magazine, Defected and underground favourite Alan Fitzpatrick amongst others. The album release was backed by ‘Don’t Cry’ remixes from TSHA and Mall Grab respectively as they both manipulated the original track to reflect their own individual production styles.
Model Man has also announced a show at East London’s Oslo on 3rd March, with a kinetic live solo set in which Mark Brandon brings together piano, synths, samplers and more to perform his signature Model Man sound. For the show, he will work with previous collaborator Terry Clark to deliver unique live coded and reactive visuals. The gig follows his phenomenal sold-out headline show at Corsica Studios in November last year.
Impromptus EP sees Model Man bring the same captivating creative energy he communicated across 2021 into the new year.
