Rooted in the rich soil of Southern soul and shaped by decades of collaboration, touring, and unflinching artistic expression, Molly Thomas continues to evolve as one of Americana’s most compelling voices. Her latest single, “Even The Strong,” offers an intimate glimpse into a chapter marked by resilience and reflection, pulled from the depths of her own healing journey following a life-altering car accident. It’s more than just a song—it’s a statement of survival and a cinematic preview of her upcoming album Tumble Home, slated for release on September 26, 2025.

The phrase “tumblehome,” a nautical term describing a boat’s inward curvature for stability, was initially chosen for its poetic metaphor. But after being T-boned at an intersection and spending five months recovering from her injuries—including debilitating head trauma—it took on new meaning for the Fairhope, Alabama-based artist. “I had to lean on others more than ever before,” Thomas explains. “The record became my anchor during a time when everything felt like it was tipping over.”
Written and recorded alongside her longtime collaborator and co-producer Ken Rose, Tumble Home became both a lifeline and a labor of love. The duo penned its ten tracks in just two weeks before the accident. Songs like “Crash” and “Tender Girl” (featuring Todd Snider) were born in the aftermath, lending raw vulnerability to an album already rich in emotional depth.
The standout track, “Even The Strong Need Somebody Sometimes,” is a lush, string-laden anthem of strength through surrender. In the self-made video, Thomas pairs breathtaking visuals with soulful lyrics: It takes strength to stay above the punch / Hurts like forever when you’ve taken too much. Her voice, both gritty and graceful, guides the listener through themes of exhaustion, endurance, and empathy.
The video’s backstory is equally inspiring. Shot during a spontaneous trip to Spain, Thomas took a crash course in video editing to bring her vision to life. “It was my first time doing anything like that,” she says. “But it felt right to tell this story with my own hands—just like I did with the music.”
Thomas’ orchestral sensibility, shaped by her classical violin background, is a hallmark of her sound. A Mississippi native and former Nashville session player, she weaves cinematic textures through every song. Her violin work has appeared in film scores and on stage with a who’s who of Americana legends, from Todd Snider and Will Kimbrough to Wilco’s Pat Sansone.
With Tumble Home, Thomas delivers her most personal and accomplished work to date. It’s a collection of stories shaped by loss, recovery, and the transformative power of music. “I wasn’t sure I’d finish the album,” she admits. “But it turns out, these songs were the medicine I didn’t know I needed.”
“Even The Strong” is both a tribute to vulnerability and a reminder that sometimes, strength is found in simply asking for help.
