Hey Ozgur,
How are you? I’m looking forward to sharing a new track with you today!
Canadian dark pop artist Nares unveils the official music video for her hauntingly ethereal single, “Levitate” (feat. 8485)—a cinematic and deeply introspective track that explores themes of transformation, isolation, and connection. More than just a song, “Levitate” is a visceral experience, merging sullen melodies with expansive production to evoke a sense of otherworldly longing.
Written in a remote country cabin in Guelph, Ontario, the track took shape over a period of years, with 8485 breathing new life into an old demo of Nares’ titled “seethru.” The result? A song that feels massive—sonically and emotionally.
The official music video, directed by Nares and Jonathan Matta, serves as the song’s visual counterpart, embodying a Lynchian dreamscape with elements inspired by The Virgin Suicides and Jungian symbolism. Blending surreal found-footage aesthetics with high-contrast cinematography, the video brings Nares’ and 8485’s dual perspectives to life—two beings navigating separate yet parallel emotional realities.

Official Video:
We’re two separate beings experiencing the same feeling, like a hive-mind. Emerging from isolation and disillusionment, we seek transcendence by whatever means necessary. It means different things to us, but we’re searching for the same thing. – Nares
Filming my scenes in Nares’ grandmother’s basement with all the fog felt very ‘Twin Peaks.’ I think we’ve kind of dedicated this song and video to David Lynch now, especially with his passing. – 8485
Inspired by their zodiac elements—Water (Pisces) and Fire (Leo)—the video for “Levitate” explores themes of duality, self-sacrifice, and transformation.
Circumambulation & Ritual: Nares’ character enacts a ritualistic fire ceremony, burning an infinity symbol into the earth—a symbol of death, rebirth, and individuation.
The Subconscious & Dissolution: 8485 is pictured floating and flailing in an above-ground pool, lost in thought, searching for purpose.
888 Symbolism: A reference to death, transformation, and new beginnings, tying back to themes of destiny and self-realization.
