Nashville Phil shares the tongue-in-cheek, satirical Christmas single ‘Swerve Me Again’ (Nov 24th).
A captivating storyteller with an acerbic sense of humour, and an accomplished multi-instrumentalist crafting infectious country soundscapes, the singer-songwriter once again showcases his ability to tread the line between the salacious and the brilliant on the new single. Compared by some to artists such as Tom Waits and Randy Newman, Nashville Phil has previously gained acclaim from the likes of The Evening Standard and Plastic Magazine.
With its gritty lo-fi sound ‘Swerve Me Again’ perfectly captures the vintage country aesthetic Nashville Phil prides himself on. Building a soundscape of crunchy guitar, twinkling vibraphone, stand up bass and shuffling drums, the track captures a sense of Christmas cheer with stylistic, husky, half-spoken vocal delivery and laugh out loud, storytelling lyricism.
Speaking about the track, Nashville Phil explains: “It’s a song about a guy who ain’t deserving of a visit from Santa Claus on account of his habitual bad behaviour. It’s a fun track, ain’t nobody I’ve played it to hasn’t cracked a smile. It’s also an attempt to grab a piece of the (extremely lucrative for some) Christmas themed playlists!”
Having amassed over 200K cumulative streams across DSPs, Nashville Phil stands as a torchbearer for alternative country music. His vintage recording techniques and narrative lyricism shine a light on his artistic vision and prowess as a performer. As he turns his attention to the festive season, Phil’s biting wit and knack for crafting infectious melodies results in a cutting, absurd yet ultimately charming Christmas single.
“Country Music has survived famine, fires & floods, tornados & blizzards, iron, steel and oil and now it’s being buried in plastic, but NOT by me!” – Nashville Phil
