Northern alternative-indie-rock quartet SMPL TXT (Sample Text) release the infectious yet melancholic new single ‘Aphrodite’.
Produced by Tim Malkin at Green Room Studios (Adult DVD, Japanese Television), the new single showcases the bands unique blend of heartfelt songwriting and rich, layered 70s inspired soundscapes. Blending strummed acoustic guitars with subtle flecks of tremolo tinted electrics, plucky bass, dappled glitches of synth and shuffling drums, the instrumentation sets a whimsical tone under the yearning, fragile lead vocal.
Led by the melodic lead vocals, blended at points with some soaring guest backing vocals courtesy of Natalie from the local band The Flying Circus, the single is at once infectiously catchy whilst retaining a depth in subtlety and emotion.
Talking about the track, lead guitarist and writer, Jordan explains: “I wrote Aphrodite just before lockdown when I was smitten with a girl that I’d been friends with for a long time so it was like this scary confession. I imagined myself playing it at an open mic for her and it being Disney film ending but it didn’t work out and the song took on this sort of sadness which I think a lot of people connect to”
Having released their debut single in summer 2022 SMPL TXT and their inception onto the North West music scene, SMPL TXT, have made significant strides playing at beloved local venues and festivals across the UK. With a growing and dedicated fan base, the band have packed out well-known venues including Bootleg Social and The Jacaranda to name a couple. Now back with a flurry of new material, the band are set to have their biggest year so far, cementing their place as ones to watch.
