Accompanying the release of Hypernormality – his acclaimed debut EP out today on PC Music – Ö is proud to present a short film of the same name, premiering at 6pm GMT via the PC Music YouTube channel.
Hypernormality is a poetic exploration of familial love amongst an inhospitable planet, intended as a reflection upon modern-day issues facing humans on earth. In a world full of contradictions, the short film addresses a multitude of existential themes through a tender, and at times satirical, lens.
The film is directed by Ö’s close collaborator Jordan l. Cardoso, with the narrative and screenplay written as a combined effort. Jordan comes from a production background, having launched a production company in LA that has produced work for James Blake, Brodinski, and Mac Demarco amongst others. Upon hearing Ö’s unreleased EP of the same name, he began to draft a narrative inspired by the music, and in turn, a symbiotic working relationship was established as the two worked towards producing a short film.
Hypernormality was produced by P92 Films in Paris, with this particular project marking their entrance into the fiction world. It stars Héléna Soubeyrand (The Crown, Taken, Borgia, Chocolat) and Léo Campion alongside Gabriel Jouyet in his acting debut. Art direction was handled by Pierre Pell, known for his previous work with Michel Gondy and Björk amongst others, as well as winning a European Academy Award.Tune into the premiere via the PC Music YouTube channel at 6pm GMT on 11th March.
