Ö – the newest member of the PC Music family – presents his debut EP Hypernormality, out March 11th, following the latest two single releases ‘Good Things on the Way’ and ‘AFK’, out now.
Having previously released under the solo moniker of Nömak, Ö is Nicolas Petitfrère’s most personal and ambitious project to date, using the human voice and body as vehicles for a unique strain of expansive electronic music.
Each track on the EP expands on this particular approach to production. ‘Good Things on The Way’, for example, centers the track around a cyclical vocal line that builds and spirals through power chords and vast sonic details to profound emotive effect. Elsewhere, ‘St. Henri’ swirls through a storm of ethereal vox leads, whilst ‘AFK’ is a transcendental, disruptive collab with label boss A. G. Cook.
Hypernormality signals an exciting new direction for both label and artist, launching into 2022 with a clear aesthetic vision.
In embarking on this new chapter with PC Music, Ö – who has amassed an impressive list of productions for high-profile pop artists including Charli XCX and Christine and the Queens – finds a platform to explore his singular approach to sound design alongside some of the most pioneering figures in music today.
Accompanying the EP is a short film of the same name that explores familial love amidst an inhospitable planet, intended as a reflection upon modern-day issues facing humans on earth. The film is directed by close collaborator Jordan I. Cardoso in his directorial debut, produced by P92 Films in Paris, and stars Héléna Soubeyrand (The Crown, Taken, Borgia, Chocolat) and Léo Campion alongside Gabriel Jouyet in his acting debut. It will premiere via the PC Music YouTube channel at 6pm GMT on 11th March.
