‘Success’ is a brooding take on $werve’s signature ‘House Phonk’ style, combining elements of raw underground hip hop and trap beats with a droning, bassy synth line that cuts straight to the soul. Speaking about the track, the young prodigy simply says: “I woke up one day with burning motivation to make something menacing. This is it.”

$werve is a 15 year old producer from Twickenham who has been making waves in the Phonk scene, amassing millions of streams on Spotify479K followers on TikTok and thousands more across his social media accounts. He started producing during the pandemic at just 12 and has built himself up to be the UK’s largest Phonk artist in just 18 months.

Having remixed Switch Disco’s ‘React’ feat. Ella Henderson earlier this year on Sony UK’s Relentless Records, $werve is shaping up to be the breakout star of the blossoming Phonk scene. The genre, which brings together trap, hip-hop, heavy bass and funk, first emerged in the 1990s but has taken on a new life over the past couple of years thanks to fearless Soundcloud artists and viral TikTok videos. The soundtrack to Fast X pulled heavily from the latest buzzy wave of Phonk, while the official Spotify playlist has well over six million likes. The influential Hyperpop playlist has 500,000.

As Phonk continues to explode in popularity, so does $werve’s status as its figurehead. ‘Success’ is another proof point of this young artist’s talent, and his ceaseless ability to push forward the Phonk genre with each new release.
