Pop Breakthrough Ed Staal Returns With Affecting New Single ‘Why’

Hertfordshire up and coming UK pop artist Ed Staal is back with ‘Why’, the second single to be taken from the upcoming EP Battle Scars & Broken Hearts. The follow up to ‘Baby Blue’, the new single see’s the single once again demonstrate his talents as a producer, songwriter and performer.

Demonstrating his musical diversity, steering away from the vintage soul found on ‘Baby Blue’ and towards a more electronic, R&B pop sound, ‘Why’ is emotive and reflective, capturing a striking, intense honesty in the lyricism and delicate, melancholic vocal delivery. The soundscape of electronic beats, electronic beats, beautifully placed arpeggiators and subtle guitar lines underlines the sensitive vocals resulting in a track with effortless commercial appeal as well as musical depth.

Talking about the single Ed adds: “Why is a song I wrote a long time ago after parting ways with someone I truly loved and comes from a place in my heart as pure and true as any song I’ve ever made. For me this song will always be a reminder of how frustrating it can be to truly care for someone that just isn’t right for you, and how uncontrollably irrational love can be.”

Building on regular support from BBC Introducing, radio play from BBC Radio 1 and across tastemaker music magazines including Clout, Alfitude and Backseat Mafia, Ed has gained a whole host of tastemaker press coverage as well as over 150,000 streams on Spotify alone and has now found himself amongst a talented team of creators in ‘Syndicate Management’. Working with this team, Ed has curated his greatest works yet in the form of an upcoming EP in collaboration with artist/producer Dom Porter. Having already built a reputation as an exciting young artist, the new EP will surely see Ed Staal soar to new heights.
