“I was in this weird headspace where time was standing still, after moving so fast for months.. there was this period of nothingness. Time felt like an illusion.
lost in my own head of overthinking and anxiety. Reverie is my realisation that I take time for granted, lost in my own thoughts I didn’t appreciate the here & now and the questions I have that cant be answered anymore”
Ollie Dixon
Inspired by the likes of Bon Iver, RY X, Bears Den and Novo Amor, the solo artist is now performing as a band and joined forces with co-writer Lee Croad. The music Ollie is creating is reverb-soaked atmospherics and warm-delayed acoustics, which blends in die acoustic folk and ambient-rock. Mixing these two genres together they have set themselves apart from the norm, creating a very unique, distinct sound.
There is a distinctly DIY ethos that is being developed by Ollie Dixon, who collectively with his band, is creating not only this beautiful unique sound with Islands, but his own expansive escapable world with home created merch, cover artwork and impressive music videos that represent the towns and coast lines that he calls home.
2022
“everything slows and the otherworldliness is emphasised as enigmatic sounds drift into play. This is a track that can genuinely be called evocative”
Review of ‘Harbour’ by Fresh on the Net
Ollie’s EP ‘Islands’ released in November 2022, marked the closure of a highly successful
year for Indie-ambient folk artist Ollie Dixon who returns in 2023 with brand new single, Reverie.
In 2022 singles from the EP ‘Islands’, ‘St Agnes’ and Harbour featured on Spotify’s Editorial playlists ‘Fresh Finds Folk and New Music Friday with the EP massing over 160,000 streams on Spotify and securing regular support from BBC Introducing & Amazing Radio. Single ‘Harbour’ in November 2022 was selected as one of the top 10 tracks by Fresh On The Net, secured a number 1 in the iTunes chart in Norway and selected by BBC Introducing in the South West as their ‘Hotly Tipped’ track of the week.
Over the past 12 months, Ollie has successfully secured his place on the UK live and festival circuit performing across multiple UK festivals including ‘Between the Trees Festival’ and playing the main stage at ‘Oceanfest’ and Ollie has become a staple in the South West music scene after selling out his debut headline show in January 2023, performing to over 200 people at one of Exeter’s most prestigious venues – The Cavern.
2023
‘Ollie Dixon’s is musical escapism in its purest form. Akin to the likes of Ben Howard, his sea-washed roots play a pivotal part in his melancholy yet atmospheric and soul-bearing storytelling. Without a doubt, one of the South-West’s stand out artists of 2022’
Daniel Pascoe – BBC Music Introducing in the South West
Another big year ahead is planned for 2023. In addition to selling out his debut headline show at the Exeter Cavern in January, Ollie is already receiving new waves of recognition with a special feature about his music, latest single and love of surfing in March’s edition of international surfing magazine ‘Wavelength’.
Ollie marked the launch of his brand new single ‘Reverie’ with 3 consecutive nights of exclusive pre-release shows in London, Brighton and Devon and has been interviewed by BBC Introducing in the South and West (on the 25th March) after Reverie was selected as their Upload of the Week ahead of its release on 31st March.
