Enlist SPRAGGA BENZ & DOC BROWN on Indie Hip-hop gem ‘Mr. Simplicity’ out 9th April via Buttercut Records

U.K indie hip-hop duo Rebel ACA & French Monkey Wrench are poised to announce a brand new release with the arrival of ‘Mr. Simplicity’ due this April through Buttercuts Records. Fusing hook-laden rhythms with biting social commentary, the track features the superstar talents of Lil’ Rossco, Spragga Benz and Doc Brown.

Rebel ACA details the track: “The beat was originally written by Lil’ Rossco, French Monkey Wrench and myself together in Butterhut the Buttercuts Studio in London. Spragga and myself are long time friends and collaborators – so I invited him to add a hook to the track. Spragga dropping the hook “you’ve never met another like me” and ironically also adding call me “Mr simplicity” – Spragga’s gift for hooks and concepts is phenomenal. He’s a hook maestro and acts like an anti-cheese machine. Whatever the riddim, he comes in with his raw Jamaican flow and such killer lyrics and and just lifts the track to another dimension. This beat was already very cool with French Monkey unmistakable bass playing, and Lil’ Rossco infectious and genius skills for beat writing and story telling with musical element, so the result was a killer combination.”

He goes on to add: “Doc Brown was invited down to the Buttercuts studio as he really is one of the great UK MC’s out there. His lyrics, tone and delivery are second to none. He came round heard the beat and just smashed it out the park on every level.

Rebel then had to respond writing lyrics about my own take on the lyrics of “Never met another like me”. Pointing out you probably have – however you might not have met a Sister or a Mum like his. Rebel sister Juliet Oury being how Rebel met Spragga Benz as she works as a lawyer in Jamaica assisting those prisoners on death row there and runs the Charity that organises UK lawyers providing this support. Through this work she became embedded in the community there and Spragga is a close friend of hers for many many years.”

Rebel ACA and French met nearly 15 years ago, as one managed, and the other produced a funk reggae band. And ever since – their completely opposite nature in almost every way – has kept them attracted, like a nut and ratchet.

Lil’ Rossco is without doubt the best mashup DJs Melbourne has ever produced. Originally a drummer, he is the DJ who can make anyone dance, and anyone cry – without being cheesy. His has been producing for decades, developing his unique style. Responsible for much of the production and recording of Spragga Benz Chiliagon project as a whole – nicknamed “Rosscafari” by Spragga – his infectious story telling in the beat shines through.
