After an impressive streak of several self-composed and storyboarded videos released earlier this year, the multi-talented alt-pop sensation Sarina returns with another imaginative hit. Building on themes of alienation, self-doubt, and mental health established by her debut single and music video ‘Identity,’ the new video depicts the artist’s battle to stand her ground. Each video centers on a different element, and in ‘Brace For Impact,’ water symbolizes the weight of pressure and shifting perspectives.

Sarina elaborates, “Drowning isn’t just so much a burning in your lungs as it is pressure on your chest. It’s your body screaming at you to do the very thing that your mind knows will kill you. The ‘Brace For Impact’ music video was conceptualized with this in mind.

Written at a time in my life when I felt the masks I wore were akin to armor, ‘Brace For Impact’ was the pressure chamber of my heart, slowly filling the gauge to red. It was the plastered smile on the cracked canister as I knew that when I exploded, it would be great. Great in a way that was terrible or great in a way that was inspiring. With imagery of broken glass, reflective water and a girl beneath the waves, I wanted to mix beautiful visuals with darker intentions.

The last song of my first EP and the newest to be released, I wanted ‘Brace For Impact’ to be an antithesis to my debut single ‘Identity,’ which featured a dark, abandoned warehouse with flames consuming the foundations. Where Identity was the blazing, fiery, destruction of who you thought you were, ‘Brace For Impact’ is the quiet found only underwater, surrounded by the fatal, soothing beauty of the water, accepting the pressure and knowing something great will come of it.”

Sarina is a Tokyo-based, bilingual singer-songwriter fluent in English and Japanese. Born in Hawaii in 2002 to a Japanese father and Lebanese mother, she’s steadily amassed a loyal following for her exceptional talent in music, theater, and art from a young age. She breathes life into her performances through her expressive voice, expert singing technique, and self-accompaniment. She is equally capable of playing the ukulele, guitar, or piano while singing, and her multi-instrumental talents also include the drums and violin.

After achieving viral success on Instagram, including videos with over 2.7 million views, Sarina continued the momentum with the release of her debut single and video ‘Identity.’ With all aspects of the single, including the artwork and music video, produced under Sarina’s creative direction, the result is a cohesive experience that embodies Sarina’s personality on all levels. Following her latest singles, ‘Melancholy Roads (No More)’ and ‘Sometimes I Wanna Cry :(,’ Sarina returns with her debut EP ‘Foreword,’ which acts as an introduction to her unique story and sound.
