Sturle Dagsland Announces Sophomore Album Dreams and Conjurations, Shares Transcendent New Single “Galdring”

Renowned for his otherworldly live performances and genre-defying sonic landscapes, Norwegian artist Sturle Dagsland returns with the announcement of his long-awaited second album, Dreams and Conjurations, set for release on October 10, 2025. Alongside the news, Dagsland shares the album’s first single, “Galdring,” available today.

A visionary force in experimental music, Sturle creates alongside his brother and longtime collaborator Sjur Dagsland, blending ancient traditions with modern innovation to produce a soundscape that defies categorization. The duo have toured extensively, performing everywhere from Shanghai to New York, Greenland to Uganda, and even to the Source of the Nile. Their performances are known to be immersive, high-energy, and sonically transformative—anchored by Sturle’s astonishing vocal range and supported by an arsenal of global instruments.

“Galdring” offers a vivid entry point into the upcoming album’s sonic world. As Sturle shares:

“Galdring” takes a lot of inspiration from both the old Norse rituals and the Sapmi shamanistic traditions. The first initial ideas came from the symbiosis I experienced while spending time in a sled dog village in Greenland. Through experimentation with different vocalization techniques, I experienced a level of harmony with the animals and achieved a synergy where it felt as if conducting a whole village of 200 wolf dogs, singing along with them and being a part of the same subconscious. I achieved almost an alpha-like-status in the pack – when I stopped singing – they stopped. I was the conductor and they were my orchestra. This was a magical moment for us and we tried to bring this existential and intense feeling into “Galdring” which was created using ceremonial Sámi drums, wooden logs, bones, harps, cow horns and a wide array of different folk instruments.

On Dreams and Conjurations, listeners can expect a sonic journey that intertwines Nordic folklore, visceral ritualism, and forward-thinking experimentation. The album ranges from the ambient mysticism of “Windharp” to the dance-driven roots of “Hallingen,” the spectral storytelling of “Kwaidan,” the exuberant “Whispering Forest, Echoing Mountains,” and “The Ritual,” a cathartic composition born of a raw shamanistic experience.

The recording process itself was as unorthodox as the music. While based in their studio in Stavanger, Norway, the brothers recorded segments of the album in locations as varied as abandoned Soviet navy ships, Ugandan villages, mountaintop cabins, and a clocktower in the Faroe Islands during a snowstorm. Each environment informed the texture of the music, adding a tangible sense of place and spirit to the compositions.

Armed with an eclectic mix of instruments—Nyckelharpa, goat horns, Guzheng, West African Kora, Marxophone, Fula flute, Hungarian Cimbalom, Waterphone, and many more—the Dagsland brothers weave a rich sonic tapestry, seamlessly merging traditional sounds with custom electronics, distorted textures, and field recordings.

Following the critical acclaim of their debut album, which earned them one of Norway’s prestigious Edvard Awards in 2021, Dreams and Conjurations affirms Sturle Dagsland’s place as one of Norway’s most daring and imaginative musical voices. The album’s bold scope and spiritual intensity mark a significant evolution in their artistic journey—pushing boundaries, dissolving borders, and invoking a sound that is as ancient as it is futuristic.
