The Schoolboys share post-punk offering ‘Girls Grow Up Faster Than Boys’

The Schoolboys are an indie rock band that formed in Reading, England in 2021. Their sound perfectly blends the conversing instrumentation of The Strokes and the melancholic lyricism of The Smiths, a meeting of the unscrupulous and youthful, indelicate masculinity of typical American rock and English post punk’s delayed gratification and cerebral self distance. Now they return with their dark and alternative offering ‘Girls Grow Up Faster Than Boys’. The brooding and experimental single flaunts introspective lyrics that are tinged with childlike innocence and reverb guitar layers that create a haunting soundscape.

The Schoolboys offer an insight into the inspiration behind the track:

“Ever since I heard ‘Girls Grow Up Faster Than Boys’ by The Cookies, I wanted to make a male version. Theirs was a very bubblegum, 60’s, jubilant version – very summertime. I wanted to write something nocturnal and uncivilised, but intellectual and romantic.”

ABOUT THE SCHOOLBOYS

The Schoolboys is the brainchild of lead singer and multi-instrumentalist Luke, who wanted to capture the zeitgeist of his day and age with music full of character. In his songs, intellectualised emotion and self analysis oppose how modern music overcompensates being void of relatable insight with bland, hedonistic content and recycled, superficial fervour.

The Schoolboys are in some sense a revival, swimming upstream from the disappearance of melody and technicality from modern musicianship. Kitchen sink realism’s trickle down influence is palpable in Luke’s lyrics, with repeat references to one’s inner intensity and direction being oppressively confined.

‘Girls Grow Up Faster Than Boys’ is slated for release on June 15th, 2022.
