DRAMA, the Chicago-based duo of producer Na’el Shehade and vocalist Via Rosa, are writing modern love songs for brokenhearted dancefloors. The pair blend R&B and dance music to create songs that are romantic, euphoric, meticulously produced and anchored by the raw emotive power of Rosa’s voice.
“Dark Rain” is at once timeless and entirely of the moment, channeling throwback synths and funk laden guitar riffs, with lush, futuristic soundscapes. Rosa’s voice embraces the listener, like a warm mist; it’s a record that will have you cozying up with a loved one, or dancing with friends in a storm.

DRAMA on the single — “There is a shock to the system that comes with finding someone who loves you unconditionally. ‘Dark Rain’ is about the butterflies that live in your belly, and the things you can’t help but think about when you’re around each other. Sometimes it can be hard to believe that there are people out there ready to love deeply even though they’ve been hurt before. This song is for the people who have found each other.”
When DRAMA introduced their first EP, Gallows in 2016, listeners became infatuated with their “happy-sad” music. Rosa’s vulnerable lyricism combined with Shehade’s sophisticated beats resonated with audiences across the world earning critical acclaim and millions of streams. The duo transformed heartache, love and pain into songs and harmonies that inspired hope and intimacy from listeners on the dance floor.
Introduced in the studio by a mutual friend, DRAMA is a powerful pairing with distinct backgrounds. Rosa, born in Texas, grew up in a Northern California Indian reservation by her Indigenous parents of Cherokee, Blackfoot Lakota and Mexican descent, was raised listening to global influences and soulful melodies. Shehade, a Chicago native was born to Palestinian immigrants, has been a serial entrepreneur his whole life; started his first business at a young age with a recording studio for his friends in his basement. Together, DRAMA forms common ground over their incredible passion for writing powerful, modern love songs to dance to.
“Dark Rain” follows their most recent single “Don’t Hold Back” that Zane Lowe called “heartbreak and bliss.” DRAMA took their live show on tour this summer, with major performances at Life Is Beautiful, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, as well as a sold out solo show at Lincoln Hall in Chicago.
