Emerging alt-pop artist a_shes unveils introspective single ‘red flags’
Hybrid-pop artist a_shes is back with his first single of the year, ‘red flags’. The dreamy new offering is reminiscent of genre-breaking artists such as Lorde, The 1975 and Sky Ferreira. Combining a catchy pop hook with a glistening soundscape and melancholic lyrics, ‘red flags’ is a bittersweet single that flaunts a_shes unique artistry.
In his own words about the track, a_shes shared: “it’s a synth-rock throwback exploring the messy and confusing landscape of love and sex as a fresh adult, and the self-destructive lengths we indulge in to feel desired and avoid loneliness”
a_shes hopes to follow up on his budding presence in the indie music scene with ‘red flags’, a synth-rock effort that explores the confusing and tumultuous landscape of love and sex as a fresh adult, and the self-destructive lengths we indulge in just to feel desired.
The release of ‘red flags’ follows on from his first two single releases in 2022. His debut single ‘movies & music’ has been featured in publications such as We Write Bout Music, Eleven Playlist, Roadie Magazine, and Tongue-Tied Magazine as well as playlist features from Amazing Radio.

a_shes is an emerging Malaysian-Bornean artist based between London and Cambridge. He writes and produces nostalgic synthpop anthems that speak to young adults with the aim of capturing the messy, scary, but oftentimes euphoric nature of growing up and embracing adulthood. “A queer Malaysian-Bornean PhD student whose passion for music was re-ignited by the fear of growing older, losing time, and the soul crushing weight of academia“
