VIDEO ROUNDS OUT BULOVA “HISTORY OF FIRSTS” CAMPAIGN
WITH ULTRA MUSIC
SINGLE OUT NOW ON AREA10/ULTRA MUSIC
TO APPEAR ON ENGLUND’S DEBUT SOLO EP
‘MESSING WITH MAGIC’ DUE OUT IN 2020
Sizzling with dance floor attitude while capturing the raw, messy magic of falling in love, as told by singer and songwriter Anabel Englund, “Messing with Magic”—her song with collaborator, Jamie Jones is entrancing in its dichotomy: at times bright and carefree with Anabel’s authentic Southern California breeziness, and yet other times she is irresistibly alluring with a dark, smoldering touch alongside her imaginative production collaborator, Jamie Jones. Today (March 12), AREA10/Ultra Music offers its video.
The video, which was shot between downtown Los Angeles, a mirrored room and the high desert, captures Englund in a series of unique looks and marks the latest edition of iconic watch brand Bulova’s “History of Firsts” video campaign with Ultra Music.
Building on its own “History of Firsts,” Bulova is collaborating with Ultra and AREA10 to follow select artists who are working together. From ‘behind the scenes’ uncovering their creative process of recording a song, to the artist’s official music video for that song, Bulova is capturing the journey.
The three part video campaign launched in May with Ultra artist Betta Lemme pairing her with video director Dream Scientist for her newest single “PLAY.” The second installment of the series focused on SOFI TUKKER, teaming the duo with Latin icon Bomba Esthero for “Playa Grande.” Featured throughout you will find Bulova’s latest timepieces worn by the artists, marking the iconic moment. The videos are released exclusively on Ultra Music’s YouTube channel, which has more than 18 million subscribers and over 10 billion music video views.
“Messing With Magic” serves as the title track for Englund’s debut EP Messing With Magic Area10/Ultra Music will release in 2020.
Upon it’s initial release in late 2019, “Messing With Magic” took notice with the press:
“Anabel Englund’s moment in the spotlight has been long overdue. The singer/songwriter’s distinctly dreamy voice has reverberated around the world through her numerous collaborations (“Reverse Skydiving,” “Electricity”) with dance heavyweights such as Jamie Jones, Lee Foss and MK, as well as their Pleasure State and Hot Natured side projects. Today, she’s releasing ‘Messing with Magic,’ the lead single from her long-awaited EP of the same name. Produced by Jones, it recalls the gloriously verboten nature of deep house circa 2012: deep and dark production with a forever-descending bassline, and lyrics sultry yet slightly sinister as Englund details a love that’s as indulgent as it is ill-advised. “I wanna go / fall into you,” she sings, “run into the dust / never catch us.” Call it Bonnie and Clyde for the club crowd;
‘Messing with Magic’ simply has us under its spell.”
“LA-based Anabel Englund recently released a satiating dancefloor feeler, “Messing With Magic,” with Ibiza mainstay, Jamie Jones, through Ultra Records‘ Area10 division. With a dark twist in the form of a brooding bass supporting Englund’s resonant vocals alongside heartbeat percussion, the track offers its due diligence with a sprinkle of light, uplifting piano chords. The verses dive back into a more menacing tone,
as the hooks bring the piano house into play.
An electro-techno synth line casually creeps in to add to the track’s nonchalant air.”
“We have been really excited about this collaboration since we first heard about it…‘Messing With Magic’ is the brand new single and the first collaboration between Anabel Englund and Jamie Jones, signed to AREA10/Ultra Records. It’s a darker, broodier song that is utterly enticing, captivating you with Anabel’s luring voice and Jamie Jones’ mesmerizing production.”
