“A Game Of Fairies” carries a profound message inspired by ATTLAS’ personal experience finding fireflies during challenging times. He drew inspiration from the mesmerizing dances of fireflies in the night sky during moments of hopelessness. These luminous creatures appear as a metaphorical reminder that it is possible to find light and beauty amidst dark times. The title stems from late-night walks along dimly lit trails surrounded by fireflies, connecting them as a reminder that you are going in the right direction in life.
Reminiscent of ATTLAS’ big melodic dance records like “Ryat” and “Further,” the new record reintroduces his classic instrumental dance elements leading with a grinding saw bass front and centre. The nostalgic touch immerses listeners in the emotions and energy that ATTLAS is known to illuminate throughout all of his records.
ATTLAS shares, “The tiny dancing lights you see when you’ve gone off the path and the darkness seems overwhelming, those are the games of fairies and reminders of the light and hope. “A Game Of Fairies” is a slightly more poetic interpretation of what I was looking at, but the sentiment is the same in my heart.”
Renowned for his visionary take on melodic house, ATTLAS continues to take listeners through emotive listening experiences with his records while pushing boundaries in the electronic scene. Being a 2x Juno-nominee for ‘Electronic Album of the Year’ is a testament to his artistic journey as a continuum, reflecting his growth, experiences, and evolving perspectives. Starting to introduce a new chapter of music this year, he steps into a musical zone that is fueled with a lighter, energetic approach – a direction that is less-vulnerable than his older releases. Since 2020, he has put out four albums, three as ATTLAS and one as his alias Sun Lo with Richard Walters. He made an impressive Monstercat Silk debut with his remix for CloudNone’s “From Here,” then returned with the impressive collaboration “Over The Water” with Mango, which has amassed nearly 5 million streams, followed by his latest single, “Used To The Silence” with Jodie Knight.
ATTLAS is looking forward to his upcoming performance at Flux Sessions at Hammerjacks in Baltimore on September 16 where fans can hear “A Game Of Fairies” live.
ATTLAS Bio
Over the course of the past four years, ATTLAS has become one of progressive house’s most celebrated artists. Canadian musician Jeff Hartford’s enthusiasm for music began at a young age, he grew up playing in bands and learning instruments like piano, trumpet, and guitar. His immersion in songwriting continued to grow when he attended university, and he interned for a composer after completing his courses. Since 2015, he’s delivered singles, EPs, and remixes – all showcasing the textured, introspective sound he’s spent years cultivating. 2019 brought exciting new developments to the ATTLAS journey, including a new installment of his lauded ‘Storyline’ series and a debut album. The album “synthesized all the experiences and wandering paths that ATTLAS walks,” according to Hartford, bringing together heavier sounds and the emotive melodies he’s built his musical brand on. 2020 proved difficult for everyone; Hartford included who was forced to cancel his ‘Lavender God Tour’, named for his debut album. Rather than focusing on the missed opportunities, Jeff took this year to dive even deeper into his musical craft. After a few one off releases and several remixes, Jeff released his second album at the top of November. The latest album, titled ‘Out Here With You’, encompasses the shift in the music industry and the way we’re digesting music without live touring. Rawer and more intimate than ever before, ‘Out Here With You’ is Jeff’s way of showing his fans and the world that we were not alone during this troubling time and that we’re all trying to navigate the state of the current world together. 2021 brought new heights to Jeff’s career, most notably a Juno nomination for Best Electronic album for his inaugural ‘Lavender God’. Iding off the high of this great honor, Jeff got back on the road touring and dropped his 3rd album later that year. 2022 led to another album and another Juno nomination in the same category for his lockdown-inspired album ‘Out Here With You’. With more music and more touring on the way, ATTLAS is a project to keep your eye on.
