Enigmatic Australian musician Love Deluxe has today released a mouth-watering new single ‘Campari & Coke’, about which he expertly explains: “Since starting this project, I’ve always wanted to dedicate a song to my favourite drink, and when writing Campari in the studio, it came together much the same as the songs namesake. A few simple elements, mixed just right and voilà, you’re transported somewhere else in a heady daze. Like the drink, the song so a little kooky, a little bitter and a lot of fun. Drink it in”.
It follows his recent ode to David Icke ‘Dance of the Lizard People’, and comes alongside the news that his forthcoming EP Fata Morgana will be released on 2nd August via Soothsayer.
Sitting comfortably at a toasty 133BPM, ‘Campari & Coke’ opens up a world of refreshingly new sounds for Love Deluxe. Bongos, live jazz-infused drums and guitars blend with otherworldly synthesizers, building and soaring until the track reaches a key moment; the delectable saxophone solo by Love Deluxe himself, recorded with a Tascam in the famous Citadel of Calvi, Haute-Corse in the French region of Corsica. The songs comes hand in hand with a video directed by Madeleine Purdy (who directed the wild treat that was DOTLP), which once again pushes all the right buttons.
The Fata Morgana EP features three additional tracks, the aforementioned ‘Dance of the Lizard People’ as well as two others. ‘Parasio’ – a tribute to the paradise he saw at every sunset on a recent trip to France, and ‘Souvenir’ (featuring Japanese seminal act dip in the pool on vocals), which was meant as a parting gift to the âme of the place and time where the EP was recorded.
Upon its release, previous single ‘Dance of the Lizard People’ was added to rotation on FBi Radio, featured in Resident Advisor’s ‘New Tracks’ and received editorial support from Complex UK. Love Deluxe recently wrapped up the Tour of the Lizard People, which saw him perform throughout Australia at Pitch Music & Arts Festival, Heaps Gay Pardi Gras and Daydreams International.
Love Deluxe made his DJ debut at Sugar Mountain x Boiler Room and has since performed live and in DJ mode at Let Them Eat Cake, Output and City Loop, just to name a few. His debut EP Silk Mirage amassed worldwide media love from the likes of triple j, FBi Radio, i-D, Indie Shuffle and XLR8R with cult favourite ‘Cool Breeze Over The Mountains’ racking up over 1 million streams on Spotify.
