Australian Tastemaker Godlands Leans Into Phonk For Double Release “SLEEPER / SICKO” on Monstercat

Following her high-energy single “CASHMERE” with boler mani, Adelaide-native Godlands has returned to Monstercat today with a phonk-driven A/B release, “SLEEPER / SICKO.” The new records revisit the trap phenom’s hip-hop stylings from her early open-format days, experimenting with 808 cowbells and ‘90s Memphis rap-inspired vocals. Crafted to fit Rocket League’s street-themed season and forthcoming Halloween event, the tracks are fused with ominous claps and drums synonymous with drifting and street racing. “SLEEPER / SICKO” flexes Godlands’ ability to produce at any BPM while she continues to expand her fanbase into new domains.

Godlands shares, “I was super excited to get into this mini side project that was a little outside my comfort zone. I’d never produced a phonk track before, so to delve into another aspect of hip hop/trap and combine it with my EDM background was really fun. To be able to work with Rocket League is also such an honour, I’m a huge fan of the game and I’m beyond excited to produce some fun tunes for their users.”

Following her impressive ‘GODSP33D’ EP  in June, Godlands continues to level-up in the electronic circuit beyond Australia. Her unique aesthetic and groundbreaking productions have amassed support from BBC, triple j, and artists like Alison Wonderland, SLANDER, and Illenium. Fans can look forward to hearing both “SLEEPER” and “SICKO” live during her debut performance at Monstercat’s ADE Label Showcase on release day, October 20th, followed by festival slots at Ice Cream Factory, Rhythm & Vines and more.

Godlands Bio

A forerunner of the new wave of Australian electronic music, Godlands has been making noise across the globe with her enviable ability to create hip-hop-infused productions and heavy festival bangers. Tearing up the trap scene, this Adelaide-based producer quickly emerged as a favorite for the likes of Triple J and BBC Radio 1, and her 2021 EP on Dim Mak Records, ‘Ready 2 Rage,’ proved that her production prowess can stand up to the Australian bass stalwarts who have come before her.

During a time of global turmoil in the midst of a pandemic, Godlands never wavered in her love for creating music. Instead of wallowing in the inability to tour, she became a sponge for creativity and saw it as an opportunity to sharpen her craft and hone in on her unique style. Fast forward to 2022 and this drive ultimately paid off. Godlands inked an EP deal with Monstercat, a label that she has strived to become a part of since her journey began. With her first single releasing in March of this year and the full EP in June, Godlands is full steam ahead and there are no signs of slowing down any time soon.
