Leading the charge is the aptly titled “Rave Operator.” It’s a heavy tearout offering that forgoes all pleasantries. The bloodthirsty vocals mix a sinister underbelly with a computerized edge that could’ve been plucked straight out of a horror film. As the stabby bounce builds, the destructive piece descends into turbulent metallic rolls, laser-fueled fills, ominous sirens, and industrial bottom-end. The sound design alone will leave the brain bent out of shape, as the bass proceeds to rattle the frame of existence. Its eerie breaks offer a brief breather from the intensity, only enough so that the foreboding feeling never fully subsides. The finale is a barrage of chaotic darkness consuming any and everything in its path.
The project’s B-side is a grimy exploration of the sludgy side of bass music as Automhate rolls into the “Sewer Party.” Inquisitive mutated rap vocals stay locked throughout, giving the track an additive appeal that’s counterbalanced against the wild production. Glitchy textures and off-kilter rhythms set the tone as it drifts deeper into the deranged sewer system. The drops are so filthy, grime seemingly seeps out from the speakers. Spunky mechanical textures slam into crunchy low-end, resulting in an unrelenting force of pure destruction. “Sewer Party” feels like trudging through toxic waste to experience a mutant rave on a dystopian planet.
Automhate reflects on this direction of the release, saying, “I wanted to get as gritty as possible with these two releases and had a lot of fun making them both. I feel like both tracks are a good juxtaposition to my more melodic music.”
