Before Avicii’s death, he’d been planning on releasing at least another EP in his Avīci series, and probably an album, as well. According to sources, he had close to 200 finished songs ready to go. Now, according to Swedish magazine Aftonbladet, fans will be getting a new Avicii album with his family’s blessing.
Geffen Records president Neil Jacobson told Variety on the day of Avicii’s death that he wasn’t sure what was going to happen to the album. “I’m going to sit down and talk to the family once everybody has a chance to take a breath,” he said. “I’ve never actually had this happen with an artist I’ve worked with before and this closely. So, I don’t know.”
He also said it was Avicii’s “best music in years.”
Aftonbladet reports that Avicii’s family has “met [with] record company representatives and partners and agree that an album will be released before the end of the year.”
