A scrapped version of Avicii‘s career-spanning documentary True Stories has appeared online after being previously removed from Netflix. Initially released in 2017, just six months before his death, the film sees director Levan Tsikurishvili following the Swedish DJ around the world for four years. The archived footage tells stories of Avicii’s larger-than-life career as well as a look inside to his personal life, health struggles, creative process, and unsustainable touring schedule.
The film features interviews with friends and musicians alike including David Guetta, Tiësto, Wyclef Jean, Nile Rodgers, and more. In a press release for its initial launch, Tsikurishvili described the influence behind his project stating,
“I wanted to do a brutally honest film about Tim as a person and not only about Avicii. Everybody knows Avicii but very few people know Tim. I think this documentary really shows Tim’s struggle and strength of character. Being a worldwide superstar artist is not as easy as it looks on Instagram.”
