NEW YORK, NY – Avsha The Awesome (who makes up one half of the buzzy lo-fi duo Lowertown) has released his latest solo single, “Boogieman,” on Dirty Hit. PRESS HERE to listen.
The track serves as the first taste of music from the artist’s forthcoming solo EP, Warming My Arms In The Oven, out December 10. With his release, this rising, innovative quadruple threat artist and classically trained musician continues to hone his craft as a vocalist, songwriter, producer and mixer.
“This EP was written, recorded, and produced over the span of a month,” said Avsha. “After returning from a trip outside the country, I made an unconscious decision to dedicate myself to a character that allowed me to express feelings that I was having a large amount of difficulty dealing with. The EP was the music and emotions that I had felt that could only be expressed by creating a persona that cycled through emotions nonstop with no regard for the feelings that had passed. The music through the persona became therapeutic.”
Avsha The Awesome (Avsha Weinberg) is one half of Atlanta-based duo Lowertown with his bandmate and friend Olivia O. The pair has quietly built a cult following while garnering praise for their moody riffs and lyrics about the trials and tribulations of becoming a young adult. From ad hoc, folky lo-fi soundscapes to more lacquered offerings, Lowertown’s unique brand of indie music is at once nostalgic and futuristic, chaotic and orderly, wise and young. Influenced by the likes of Aphex Twin, Modest Mouse, Radiohead, (Sandy) Alex G, and Animal Collective, Lowertown has already made waves in the US and UK, having drawn acclaim from Pitchfork, Pigeons & Planes, The FADER, Ones To Watch, The Guardian, Far Out, Alternative Press, Notion, The Forty Five, DIY, Dork, BBC Radio 1 and more.
