Bebe Rexha has reimagined Faithless’ 1995 classic ‘Insomnia’ for her new single ‘New Religion’

Bebe Rexha has reimagined Faithless’ 1995 classic ‘Insomnia’ for her new single, ‘New Religion’.The New York pop artist’s latest track interpolates the iconic track’s melody along with a portion of the late Maxi Jazz’s instantly recognisable refrain, “I can’t get no sleep”. Faithless are credited alongside Rexha as contributors on the track, rather than being listed as featured or sampled artists.

The visual accompaniment for the track also features portions of the original ‘Insomnia’ video, stitched in between shots of Rexha in a club setting.

In a press release, Rexha commented: “‘New Religion’ is really my salvation on the dance floor. It’s about letting go and getting lost in the music. I was in a dark place when I wrote it, and I realized music had always been the one thing that never left me — it’s always had my back, even in a tough industry and a heavy world. I wanted to write a love letter to music itself. When the bass hits, you feel it in your chest and suddenly you feel alive again. That’s what this song is about for me — feeling safe in the music and remembering that spark. I hope when people hear it, it makes them want to get up and dance, but more than that, I hope it makes them feel alive.”

In a post shared to Instagram she wrote: “‘I’m beyond grateful that Faithless allowed me to use such an iconic dance record. That means more to me than you know.”
