Ben Sims and Truncate’s return to the ASSAILANTS project on their own Obscurity Is Infinite imprint arrives this July 13th on vinyl and July 31st on digital, and sees the duo drop four tightly-wound Techno cuts, echoing one of 2018’s biggest releases, their ‘Chase Sequences’ EP.
‘The Art of Rolling’ EP begins with ‘The Roller’, a locked-in undulating piece of Hardgroove punctuated with deft percussive flourishes and the correct amount of cowbell, while ‘Fracture 1’ heads into beatdown territory with on-the-beat claps and crafty rap samples. ‘Fracture 2’ continues the swinging grooves in a lean, rumbling style with soulful vocal clips offsetting an earworm riff. Closing out is ‘Effort 12’ (a nod to 90s UK Techno), which treads a rattling, bell-riff and DX strings path that walks the line between heads-down and arms-up perfectly.
